How to Self Care - with Littles!

Between the endless needs of diapering, feeding, and playtimes, it has definitely been a challenge to implement the Intimacy Skill of Self Care while I've had littles in the house!

However, I was committed to changing the culture in my home! So I took Laura's advice and began to look for frivolous activities throughout my day that could add to my happiness. I found this is the key first step to becoming happy again and having the energy to implement the other Intimacy Skills!

I made a list of all the things that might make me happy - sipping a glass of wine, basking in the sun, dancing in Zoomba class, reading a book in silence... I soon realized I needed a category of SC that I could do WITH littles around!

More than that, I thought of the extreme situations when I felt like no one would help me and I was at the end of my rope with littles underfoot! One of those situations was nights my husband knew he would work late and when my mother-in-law would also be unavailable to help.

I thought, "What could make those evenings magical rather than the incredible burden I felt at the time?" I experimented with buying a microwave Tikka Masala dinner from Trader Joes, putting on a chick flick, and having that glass of wine, all while my son was with me in the living room or after his bedtime.

Do you know what? I started to look forward to nights when I would have the house to myself! The SC I chose fit me so well I couldn't wait to indulge! When my husband got home, I would be happy and full to greet him with a smile and gratitude for how hard he worked all day.

What a difference! How might it fit for you to shift one of the rhythms that is NOT working for you and transform it into total self care!?
